Tympanometry is a quick and painless diagnostic test offered at HHB Speech and Hearing Clinic to assess the health and function of the middle ear. It is especially useful in identifying conditions like fluid in the middle ear, eardrum perforation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, or ear infections, which may not always be detected through basic hearing tests. During the procedure, a small probe is gently placed in the ear canal. This probe changes the air pressure inside the ear and measures how the eardrum responds to these pressure changes. The movement of the eardrum is recorded on a graph called a tympanogram, which helps audiologists evaluate the ear’s condition in detail.
Tympanometry is commonly performed in both children and adults, particularly when symptoms like ear pain, hearing loss, fullness in the ear, or frequent infections are present. It is also routinely used in pre- and post-treatment evaluations for ear conditions. At HHB Speech and Hearing Clinic, tympanometry is part of our Impedance Audiometry suite and is often combined with other hearing assessments to provide a comprehensive view of ear health. Our expert audiologists ensure the procedure is performed in a calm and comfortable environment, making it suitable even for young children. Accurate diagnosis through tympanometry helps in planning effective medical or surgical treatment if needed. By using advanced equipment and expert care, HHB Speech and Hearing Clinic ensures that every patient receives the highest standard of auditory evaluation and support.
